Norfolk Pine History-
·         Discovered by Captain Cook
·         Discovered on Norfolk Island
·         Was very important to make sail boats
·         Has been around since the ice age
·         It’s Trunk and Branches are evidence of this as it is very efficient in capturing light
·         Was a main reason why Australia was settled
Limestone-
·         Is made up of dead, decomposed, organisms and is crushed together under great pressure
·         Made at the bottom of the sea
·         Used a lot in the 1800’s
·         Pressed together over millions even billions of years
·         The first limestone rock is very weak as it was made up algae and bacteria
Desalinisation-
·         A plant was built in PT recently
·         It changes salt water into fresh water
·         Makes large amounts of toxic salt
·         The salt is then pumped back into the sea
·         Shows a drastic change to supply water
·         Is harming the environment by altering the salt vs. water levels which make the sea
Chinamans Hat-

EXPLANATION:
Women were not allowed to carry much money on them, only enough to get a drink when they are out. They weren’t allowed bank accounts as well.
In the Brentwood Cemetery around 50% of the graves were for young children not much pass the age of 13 years. Some were only 13 months old. There was a huge age gap between the next set of dead people. They were in their 70’s/ 80’s but no one was in their 30’s/ 40’s.

Snorkelling

T1-
During snorkelling at ‘Treasure Cove’ I learnt a lot of skills. The first thing I learnt was how to stop your mask from fogging up. You wipe a layer of spit over the lens and although it sounds weird it really does work.  The next thing I learnt was how to move about and to not be afraid of staring down rather than where you’re heading towards. It took me a few minutes to get used to this but once I did I just relaxed and started to enjoy what was underneath the water.  One of the most important things I learn throughout this experience was how to clear my snorkel, after diving beneath the water. What you had to do was keep your head facing the bottom of the sea as your rose then once you reached the surface, push out a big breath of air and flick your head back at the same time. Sounds complicated right? Well it’s not at all. Our last lesson of the day was to always stick with someone when you were snorkelling, so we all chose partners and stayed with each other for the rest of the day.
 T2-
During my experience I only saw some black and white stripped fish, some larger fish (about a 25cm long), crabs and a puff fish as I was walking back to the bus which had washed ashore.  We mostly snorkelled along the shore line of Treasure Cove but went out a bit deeper later into the snorkel. The water was dead easy to see when you were by yourself or with your partner but as soon as you travelled in a group, all the sand from the bottom of the sea was kicked up and made nearly impossible to see through! The best part would easily have been when I was chasing the large 25cm fish around the shore. My greatest challenge would have been clearing my snorkel after diving deep and getting out of the water with flippers on.

Steps:
1.       First put the 2 cups f white flour in a bowl.
2.       Add the 1 cup of brown flour.
3.       Add the 2 tea spoons of yeast to the 250mls of water.
4.       Add the pinch of salt to the flour.
5.       Then slowly pour the yeast and water into the bowl.
6.       Mix all ingredients thoroughly and add what toppings you like to make great pizzas
By the end it was not too firm but not too soft. It was a great success and made several mini pizzas. The wood oven and toppings were very delicious after and the end result was great.

Novel

LIES by Michael Grant, published by Egmont UK Limited

This story takes place in the present day, in a beat up old town called the FAYZ. There is also a different side of town for other people who are non-mutants. There is a very small population here though and food source is running low. The Author uses lots of decriptive words to describe the location of the location or character.
  • Sam
  • Astrid
  • (Sam and Astrid are Boy friend and Girl Friend)
  • Orsay
  • Nerezza
  • (Nerezza's Orsay's assitance)
  • Caine
  • Diana
  • (Caine and Diana non-mutant rebels)
  • Jill
  • (Jill's a mutant)
  • Derek
  • Mother Mary
  • (Incharge of the day care)
When the world turned upside down and into fallout Sam had to take the leadership role and stand up above the rest. He needed to help everyone through hard times even though he wasn't too comfortable with the idea at start. His girlfriend Astrid is trying to bring in rules and laws to society. She is grealty affected from Sam's position and is now trying to get him to step down. She wants to create a council so the community can be run smoothly. Things are harder than they appear though as new threat emerges from the ground.

Take out the scene where a boy called Jack gets sick. He is super strong but also a computer geek. He does not impact the storyline very much and only adds in another chapter to the book.

The Author goes into great deatil about every part of the book. He describes each section with a lot of descriptive words and doesn't skip details. This lets you get a great picture of the book in your head and really get invovled with the novel. It makes you want to keep reading as I have wanted to at night. Also the story line is Thriller/ Action which is what I love.

SESSION 1:
1.       My strength in the Wardli would definitely be time management and organisation. Most of the time I will try and get my Wardli out to the classroom or whatever location we need to get to on time.  I will wait for the last person to finish up their job and head off with them rather than take off when I’ve finished my job. I will always make sure each job is completed before I move onto the next job or leave for the classroom. With the washing I always every person takes their clothing. I believe these strengths are very important in every household, especially one as small as our Wardli.
2.       No one had any problems in our Wardli but I think we would have handled any situation maturely and sensibly.
3.       I really appreciate what mum and dad do at home every day after this experience.  I now know what they go through day in and day out just to keep the house clean, washing going, and food on the table. I will “try” to help out at home more now and not let mum and dad do “all” the work!
SESSION 2:
1.       A functional housemate shows the skills of:
Tidiness and Organisation. They keep everything clean and pack stuff up when they get it out rather than let it all build up and get all untidy. This creates a lot less work at the end and allows people to have more time on their hands for other tasks.
Acceptance and Respect. This allows people to be themselves and not worry about what other people think of them. They allow and trust certain traditions of other people even if it isn’t common to them.
Hard Worker and Time Efficient. Someone who only has a break when all the jobs are finished. They help others once they’ve finished and the other person needs help. They keep an eye on the time and allow time to get to different locations.
2.       The most functional person in my Wardli is the person who does majority of the things above. They only have a break when it is deserved and motivates people when they are struggling rather than get angry at them or pay them out. The person always is doing something constructive with their job and will go out of their way to make sure their and other people’s jobs are finished to a high standard.
3.        I will always try and do my job to a high standard. Sometimes with more tricky jobs I can’t  do as Thorough job but I will still make sure everything is done before I leave or chill out. I will also make sure no one else needs help before leaving in case they have a harder job than me and might need a bit of assistance. I will also try and get along with everyone in the Wardli. Luckily majority of the people in my Wardli are my mates so it is easy to talk and get along with them but the people I’m not great friends with I might try to get to know them better.

Poetry

The wind blows accross the sea,
so much to be heard, so much to be seen.
Boats sail here and there,
they go with the wind everywhere.

Creatures swim amongst the reafs,
they fly as high as the eye can see.
It is a dangerous yet beautiful thing,
people can swim or drown in it.

Although the ocean fills us with joy,
people polute in it,
with rubbish and more.
This sea which is as strong as a brick wall,
is being killed by the things,
which love it most of all.

So where would we be without this sea,
iscolating land from treachery.
We need this water to survive,
without it we would be sure to die.

This poem is about the sea and the many creatures which swim in it. It is about the ocean breeze and the dangers from it. I got the ispiration to right from sitting at the West Bay beach and looking at the sea. Many photo's have also helped me write about the sea.

Community Service - Leisure Options

SESSION 1:
Being a volunteer means to me to go out of your way to help people less fortunate than you and expect nothing in return expect self-satisfaction.
I’ve learnt that disabled people are like you and me. I learnt they have wonderful personalities and have a great attitude towards life. It is very unlucky they won’t have the opportunities like we will in life but still look at it as a glass half full not half empty.
My most enjoyable moment throughout the trip would be socializing with them at the start and playing Uno with Daniel and Jess. It was interesting talking with them and listening to what they talked about. Some of them were very repetitive and kept saying the same thing over, others would just keep and keep talking and others were quiet and didn’t say a word but it was great fun having a conversation with different people. Uno was also great fun and a good laugh. Daniel was really getting into it and it was funny what he’d say every turn before he put down his card.
My least enjoyable moment of the trip would be preparing the lunch. I was in charge of tossing the salads but I found it quite boring because everyone was busy and there weren’t many people to talk to.
SESSION 2:
Today the Leisure Options people came to Wambana Campus and had lunch. It was great fun and a good laugh throughout the day. We first waited for everyone to arrive and then we stood around and had a chat with everyone. Most of the people there I knew except there were a couple of new people like Cameron, Roger, Nathan and many more. We then got the ingredients ready for the pizza oven and then started cooking them. It was a fairly good lunch and nice because everyone shared pizzas around. After lunch we had the sport games. I had my Wardli in my team plus Jess, Daniel, Wayne and Moffins! After, I pieced some of the mosaic with Cameron and Anthony which was good fun. I needed to help Anthony a bit because he left fairly big holes between each piece he put in but it was good fun and a good way to finish the day. On the way out Anthony jumped up on the chin-up bar and pulled 2 out of nowhere which I was impressed about.
